Has anyone started learning to play piano by simply finding the right notes and finding it out?

You see, I am a piano player and I wanted to know if any piano players out there have learned at first to play songs by ear and memory like I have or even any famous people who have.

i started with a keyboard and trying to find out how to transpose my clarinet music too piano. And tried figuring out notes and rythms.. . Then i started formal lessons.

I took a few lessons when I was young then I developed my ability to play "by ear" later; but I think I could have done that without lessons.

mamianka is wrong; there is a blind pianist who is an excellent classical pianist, and there is no way he learned by reading music. I will try to find his name. Also Liberace could pick out tunes on the piano before he was old enough to read, but he did take lessons later.

Many people do, it's easy with videos. If you have good ear you can learn fast that way too
